Engelie Blomerus

Meet-the-Teacher
Engelie Blomerus was born in South Africa and is currently living in Lowell, Massachusetts. She immigrated with her family to America in 1999. She has been married for over 30 years to her best friend and confidant, Tian Blomerus. She is the proud mother of two now grown children and enjoys her grandchildren.

Mrs. Blomerus completed her studies in Fine Arts at the Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. Previously known as Port Elizabeth Technicon. In South Africa she taught art at the Uitenhage Technical College. She also gave private art classes. She was involved in Community work in South Africa, especially in the area of youth work. She was involved in an HIV/AIDS prevention program in the High Schools.

In the United States, she has taught art at Community Christian Academy in Lowell, Lowell Catholic High School and currently at Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter High School. She is the owner and director of Lighthouse Art School, where she shares her passion for art with her young students.

Her love for children and her passion to see them reach their full potential is the inspiration behind her teaching career. Her whole outlook on life is shaped by the fact that she became a Christian during her student years at art school. Her life is centered and based on the bible and her relationship with her Heavenly Father.

 

Maria Rastas

Maria
Maria Rastas is originally from Tewksbury, Massachusetts and currently lives in Lowell, Massachusetts. She and her husband, Jonathan, enjoy working with children and experiencing nature through kayaking and road trip adventures.

Maria graduated from UMASS Lowell in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English Literature with a Studio Art minor. In 2012, Maria completed her Masters in Education. She has ten years of experience in the elementary education field and five years of experience teaching art.

Maria’s passion to share the arts began as a young girl when she would hold weekly art classes for her cousins and the neighborhood children. As an adult, Maria would continue to teach art in a local community center to both children and adults. She also served as an art teacher for the 2nd-4th grades at Community Christian Academy in Lowell, MA. Maria has been very blessed by Mrs. Blomerus’ friendship for over ten years and she happily joined the Lighthouse Art School in the winter of 2014.
